Despite today’s abundance of theologians, pastors, teachers, and ministries, we have noticed a significant need to point married individuals to Jesus Christ.
According to a CDC report, there has been a slight improvement in the divorce rate in the United States. The rate decreased from 2.5 per 1,000 population in 2021 to 2.4 in both 2022 and 2023. The lowest rate since 2000 was 2.3, recorded in 2020. (Ref: CDC Marriage and Divorce)
Regarding religious demographics, sadly, PEW reports that the “Evangelical Protestant” group continues to have the highest divorce rate in the U.S. For 2023-2024, 66% of divorces involved individuals identifying as Christians. Within this group, Evangelical Protestants account for the largest share at 24%. While this marks an improvement compared to data from 2014 (see figure below), the current figures remain concerning. (Ref: PEW Research Center | Married People)
Another concern is the increasing divorce rates for 50 and older and it is called “gray divorce.” According to PEW, divorce rate among this age group has doubled since the 1990s. (Ref: PEW, March 9, 2017, see figure below)
In light of many well-known ministries today, it seems the statistics do not reflect a compatible outcome. Looking back at the recorded ministry work of Jesus Christ, we can recognize His various methods of sharing truth. He often asked questions, which have evolved into today’s apologetics ministry. He made powerful statements that are echoed by church leaders today. He shared numerous stories, like parables, in response to inquiries, which can be seen as modern attempts to share testimonies.
Our prayer is for the CJ2 Movement to share the gospel and encourage many to discipleship through storytelling, just as Jesus Christ did. In collaboration with church leaders, teachers, apologists, and individuals like you, we hope these stories will inspire many married individuals. Such encouragement can lead to life-changing decisions that anchor their marriages in Jesus Christ.
